Laser Hair Removal: Frequently Asked Questions
What To Expect
- Will laser treatments damage my skin?
With Spa Nala’s Cutera excel HR™ laser and its sapphire contact cooling technology, there may be some reddening of the skin after a treatment, but it keeps your skin cool while it works.
- Is laser hair removal painful?
Laser hair removal at Spa Nala feels like a rubber band snap on your skin, but with our Cutera excel HR™ laser and its sapphire contact cooling technology, your skin stays cool and comfortable throughout your treatment.
- How long will recovery time be?
There is no recovery time. You can resume regular activities immediately after treatment.
- What kind of lasers does Spa Nala use? How powerful are they?
Spa Nala uses Cutera brand lasers. Cutera’s unique sapphire contact cooling technology keep your skin cool, which dramatically lowers the risk of injury and pain.
How It Works
- How do lasers remove the hair?
The laser targets the hair shaft beneath your skin and gradually heats it with light, destroying it. It only targets the darker shaft, not the skin around it.
- How do I schedule an appointment?
- What if my laser hair removal question isn’t answered here?
If you have questions which aren’t answered in the FAQ, please, give us a call and we would be happy to answer. No question is a silly question!
- Are there any other options which are as good as lasers?
There are creams, but they do not remove the hair permanently, they work similar to shaving. You could also try waxing, but it will come back after 4-6 weeks typically. A laser is the only true way to remove hair nearly permanently.
Preparing For Laser Hair Removal
- How do I prepare for laser hair removal?
You should stop any waxing or tweezing you do 6 weeks before coming in for your laser hair removal. You can still shave, and should shave within 24 hours before your treatment. The hair needs to be in your skin, but not above the skin, for laser removal to work.
- Which areas of my body can be treated?
Both men and women can be treated by laser hair removal. For either sex, hair removal is commonly done on the face (hairline, eyebrows, top of the nose, lip, neck, chin, ear lobe), upper body (shoulders, breast, back, underarm, arms, hands) lower body (abdomen, pubic area, bikini line, buttocks, thighs, legs, toes).
- How do I care for my skin after laser hair removal?
Once the hair sheds, you’ll be hair-free in the treatment areas for a few weeks. Once new hair begins to grow in (about 8-12 weeks after your treatment), you will come in for your next treatment. There may be some reddening of the skin after a treatment, but Spa Nala’s Cutera excel HR™ laser has sapphire contact cooling technology which keeps your skin cool while the gentle laser works.
Treatment Length/Number Of Sessions
- How long is a treatment session?
One session of laser hair removal is usually done in under one hour. Depending on the size of the area, it could take as few as five minutes.
- How many sessions will I need?
Generally, you will need multiple treatment sessions before most of the hair in your treatment area will be removed. Spa Nala offers package deals of seven treatments, with free maintenance for one year after completion of the seventh treatment.
- Why do I need more than one session?
This is because hair growth occurs in four stages, only one of which is an actively growing stage. Lasers can only affect hair which is actively growing, so only ¼ or less of it will be removed at one treatment session.
